SIGNS YOU NEED A NEW PATIO DOOR

Signs you need a new patio door

A patio door that does not slide, seal, or lock properly is more than an inconvenience. It is a security and energy issue.

  1. The door sticks or jumps off its track when sliding
  2. Drafts coming through the edges even when fully closed
  3. The lock does not engage fully or feels loose
  4. Fog or condensation trapped between the glass panes
  5. Visible rust or corrosion on the track or frame
  6. Water pooling at the base of the door after rain
  7. The screen door is torn, bent, or missing entirely
  8. Difficulty opening the door with one hand

If any of these sound familiar, call (516) 867-4100. We can usually assess the situation in one visit.

OUR SERVICES

Patio door services we offer on Long Island

Your patio door connects your indoor living space to your yard, deck, or porch. The right door should slide smoothly, seal tightly, and let in natural light.

Sliding Patio Doors: The most popular style for Long Island homes. Two or three panel configurations that glide on a track without swinging into the room.

French Patio Doors: Hinged double doors that swing open for a wide, unobstructed entry to your backyard. Available in fiberglass, wood, and composite materials.

Multi-Panel Sliding Doors: Three, four, or five panel systems that fold or slide to create a wide-open wall between your living room and outdoor space.

Sliding Door Track Repair: If your existing door jumps, sticks, or grinds, the track may be bent, dirty, or corroded. We replace tracks and rollers without replacing the entire door when possible.

Patio Door Glass Replacement: Broken or fogged glass panels can be replaced individually. We match the glass type and thickness to your existing door.

Screen Door Replacement: We install retractable and fixed screen panels sized to your patio door opening.

 FAQ

Common questions about patio doors

How much does a new patio door cost on Long Island?

Patio door pricing depends on the style, material, glass package, and opening size. A standard two-panel sliding patio door with installation typically starts around $1,500 to $3,000. French doors and multi-panel configurations run higher based on size and hardware. We provide a free written estimate at your home.

How long does patio door installation take?

Most single patio door replacements are completed in one day. Multi-panel systems or projects requiring structural framing adjustments may take a second day. We will give you a clear timeline during the estimate.

What is the best patio door style for Long Island?

Sliding doors are the most popular because they do not swing into the room and work well in tight spaces. French doors are a good choice when you want a wide, unobstructed opening. For homes with a view or large deck, multi-panel systems create a wall-to-wall connection between indoors and outdoors. We can show you all options at our showroom.

Can you replace my patio door without replacing the frame?

If the existing frame is square, solid, and free of rot or water damage, we can install a new door into the existing opening. If the frame is damaged, we replace the full unit. We check this during the free estimate.

Are your installers licensed and insured?

Yes. Mikita Door & Window is EPA Lead Safe Certified and fully insured with workers’ compensation and general liability coverage.

Do patio doors come with a screen?

Most patio doors include a sliding screen panel. We also install retractable screens that tuck away when not in use. Ask about screen options during your estimate.

Will a new patio door reduce my energy bills?

Yes. Old patio doors with single-pane glass or worn weatherstripping are major sources of energy loss. A new insulated, Low-E coated patio door significantly reduces heat transfer. On Long Island, where energy costs average 35% above the national rate, this adds up.

Can you install a patio door where a wall currently exists?

In many cases, yes, but it requires structural work to create the opening, install a header, and frame the wall properly. This is a larger project than a door-for-door replacement. We assess feasibility during the in-home estimate.

How secure are sliding patio doors?

Modern sliding patio doors have multi-point locking systems, reinforced frames, and tempered glass. We install doors with foot locks and anti-lift pins for added security. The track hardware we use is corrosion-resistant for Long Island’s coastal environment.

What is the difference between a sliding patio door and a French patio door?

Sliding doors glide on a track and do not need floor space to swing open. French doors are hinged and swing inward or outward, creating a wider opening but requiring clearance. Sliding is better for smaller decks or tight interiors. French doors are better when you want a traditional look and have the room.
