DOOR INSTALLATION

Long Island door installation by a family that does the work themselves

Mikita Door & Window has been installing doors on Long Island since 2000. We are a family-owned company run by Michael and Corey Nocella out of our Freeport showroom at 136 W Sunrise Hwy. We carry doors from ProVia, Pella, and Andersen, and we install every one of them with our own crew. No subcontractors. The owner is on every job.

Long Island homes deal with salt air from the Great South Bay, nor’easters that drive rain sideways into door frames, and UV exposure that bakes south-facing entries all summer. That is why material selection, weatherstripping quality, and proper flashing matter more here than in most markets. We help you choose the right door for your home and install it so it seals, locks, and lasts.

With over 378 five-star Google reviews and 25 years of experience, we have installed doors in Freeport, Merrick, Baldwin, Bellmore, Wantagh, Massapequa, Rockville Centre, and across Nassau County. Call (516) 867-4100 or visit our showroom for a free estimate.

 FAQ

Common questions about bay and bow windows

How much does door installation cost on Long Island?

It depends on the door type, material, and whether the frame needs replacing. A standard steel exterior door with installation starts around $800. Fiberglass entry doors from ProVia typically start around $1,400 and go up with sidelites, transoms, and custom finishes. Patio doors start around $1,500 for a two-panel slider. We provide a free written estimate at your home.

How long does door installation take?

Most single door installations are completed in one day. Storm doors take about an hour. Patio doors and projects requiring frame replacement may take two days. We give you a clear timeline during the estimate.

Do you install all types of doors?

Yes. We install entry doors, patio doors, storm doors, French doors, double doors, exterior side and back doors, basement doors, and custom-shaped doors for non-standard openings. The only doors we do not handle are interior doors and automatic garage door openers.

Do bay and bow windows need structural support?

Yes. The window projects outward from the wall and carries weight that the wall was not originally designed to hold. We install cables, brackets, or knee braces depending on the size and weight of the window to keep it secure for the long term.

Do you replace the door frame or just the door?

Both. If the frame is solid and square, we install a new door into the existing frame. If the frame is rotted, warped, or damaged, we replace the complete unit including the frame, threshold, and weatherstripping.

Are your installers licensed and insured?

Yes. Mikita Door & Window is EPA Lead Safe Certified and fully insured.

Can you install a door where one does not currently exist?

In some cases, yes. Adding a new exterior door requires cutting an opening, installing a header, framing the rough opening, and properly flashing and sealing the new unit. This is a larger project than a replacement. We assess feasibility during the in-home estimate.

Will a new door improve my home's energy efficiency?

Yes. Drafty, poorly sealed doors are one of the biggest sources of energy loss in a home. A properly installed, insulated door with fresh weatherstripping eliminates air leaks. On Long Island, where energy costs run 35% above the national average, the savings add up quickly.

Do you work on older homes that may have lead paint?

Yes. We are EPA Lead Safe Certified and follow all federal lead-safe work practices on homes built before 1978. Containment, cleanup, and disposal are included in every job at no additional charge.

Can I visit your showroom before scheduling an estimate?

Yes. Our showroom is at 136 W Sunrise Hwy in Freeport. We are open Monday through Thursday 9am to 6pm and Friday through Saturday 9am to 4pm. You can see entry doors, patio doors, storm doors, and window products in person. No appointment needed.
