OUR SERVICES
Replacement window services we offer on Long Island
Every home is different, and the right window depends on the opening, the room, and your goals. Here are the window types we install most often.
Double Hung Windows: The most common style on Long Island. Both sashes tilt in for easy cleaning from inside your home.
Casement Windows: Hinged on the side and cranked open for full ventilation. Ideal for kitchen sinks and hard-to-reach spots.
Sliding Windows: Slide horizontally on a track. A good fit for wide openings and rooms where you do not want a sash swinging outward.
Awning Windows: Hinged at the top and push out from the bottom. They let in air even during light rain.
Bay and Bow Windows: Project outward from the wall to add natural light and usable shelf space. Learn more at /bay-bow-windows/.
Specialty and Custom Windows: Round tops, geometric shapes, and picture windows built to your exact dimensions.
Vinyl Window Replacements: Affordable, low-maintenance frames that resist rot, peeling, and coastal corrosion.
Low-E Glass Upgrades: Insulated glass with low-emissivity coatings that reduce heat transfer and cut energy costs on Long Island.

FAQ
Common questions about replacement windows
How much do replacement windows cost on Long Island?
The cost depends on window style, frame material, glass package, and the number of openings. A single double-hung vinyl window typically starts in the $300 to $800 range installed. Whole-home projects vary based on how many windows you are replacing and whether custom sizes are needed. We provide a free written estimate at your home so you know the exact price before any work begins.
How long does window replacement take?
Most single-window replacements are done in under an hour. A full-home project with 10 to 15 windows usually takes two to three days. Custom or specialty windows may add time depending on lead times from the manufacturer. We will give you a clear timeline during your in-home estimate.
What brands of windows do you install?
We install Andersen, Pella, and ProVia windows. All three manufacturers back their products with lifetime warranties. You can see and compare all three brands at our Freeport showroom before making a decision.
Are your installers licensed and insured?
Yes. Mikita Door & Window is a licensed home improvement contractor, EPA Lead Safe Certified, and fully insured. We carry workers’ compensation and general liability coverage on every job.
Do I need to be home during the installation?
An adult 18 or older needs to be present to sign off on the project and do a final walkthrough with our crew. We send photo updates during the work if you need to step away.
Will new windows lower my energy bills?
Long Island electricity rates average about 27 cents per kWh, roughly 35% above the national average. Replacing single-pane or failed double-pane windows with Energy Star rated units can save $200 to $500 per year depending on your home size and current window condition. You may also qualify for NYSERDA rebates and PSEG Long Island incentives.
Do you handle windows in homes built before 1978?
Yes. We are EPA Lead Safe Certified, which means we follow federally required lead-safe work practices when disturbing painted surfaces in older homes. This includes containment, cleanup protocols, and proper disposal.
What is the difference between vinyl and fiberglass windows?
Vinyl windows are more affordable and resist rot, peeling, and corrosion. Fiberglass windows cost more but hold their shape better in extreme temperature swings and offer a slimmer frame profile for more glass area. Both work well on Long Island. We can show you both at our showroom.
Can you replace just the glass without replacing the whole window?
In many cases, yes. If your frame and sash are in good condition but the insulated glass unit has failed (foggy, cracked, or broken), we can replace just the glass. Call (516) 867-4100 and we will assess whether a glass-only repair makes sense for your situation.
How do I know if I need a full-frame or insert replacement?
If your existing frame is square, solid, and free of rot, an insert replacement fits a new window into the old frame. If the frame is damaged, warped, or rotting, a full-frame replacement removes everything down to the studs. We check this during the free in-home estimate and explain which option is right for your home.
